Women’s basketball drop back-to-back, men remain undefeated
Women
The SAIT Trojans women’s basketball team hosted two home games this past weekend.
Game one took place Friday, Nov. 28 at the SAIT Bubble in Calgary against the NAIT Ooks.
The Trojans started strong, taking a 17-13 lead at the end of the first quarter.
It was all Ooks from there, as they held the Trojans to nine points in the second quarter and seven in the third to earn a 62-44 win.
Veteran Ava Kearl led the Trojans offence with 10 points, five rebounds and four steals.
The next night, the Trojans faced the University of Alberta–Augustana Vikings at the SAIT Bubble.
By halftime, the Trojans trailed 43-36.
In a back-and-forth third and fourth quarter, the Trojans battled but fell by one point, losing 74-73.
Kearl once again led the offence, recording 22 points.
With the two losses, the Trojans are tied for second in the ACAC women’s basketball standings with a 4-6 record.
Next for the Trojans is a trip to Edmonton to face The King’s University Eagles on Friday, Jan. 2, 2026, at 6 p.m., followed by the NAIT Ooks the next day at 5 p.m.
Men
The Trojans men’s basketball team looked to continue their perfect season this weekend.
On Friday, Nov. 28, the Trojans travelled to Edmonton to face the Ooks.
At halftime, the Trojans led 49-46 in a close, back-and-forth game.
A stellar fourth quarter, in which the Trojans scored 26 points, secured a 94-88 win.
Marcus Masters led all scorers, with the Trojans veteran putting up 35 points.
On Saturday, the Trojans took on the Vikings in Camrose, Alta.
Holding the home side to 14 points in the first quarter, the Trojans cruised to a 46-31 halftime lead.
They continued their consistent two-way play, winning 89-58 and improving to 10-0 on the season, keeping them in first place in the ACAC men’s basketball standings.
Next for the Trojans is a trip to Edmonton to face The King’s University Eagles on Friday, Jan. 2, 2026, at 8 p.m., followed by the NAIT Ooks the next day at 7 p.m.
Women’s hockey face tough schedule, men split games against Kings
Women
The Trojans women’s hockey team faced a gruelling weekend.
All games were at home, with the Trojans facing the Lakeland College Rustlers on Friday, Nov. 28, Saturday, Nov. 29 and Sunday, Nov. 30.
On Friday night, the Trojans battled the Rustlers at WinSport Arena in Calgary.
The Trojans trailed 3-1 after 20 minutes, with their lone goal coming from Kaylan Easson.
Jessa Brewer added a power-play goal six and a half minutes into the second period, followed 11 seconds later by a goal from Sydney Hollman.
Halfway through the period, Marly Dumanski scored a power-play goal to make it 4-3 for the Rustlers.
The Rustlers added two goals in the third — one from Calla Kampen and a late power-play goal from Paris Appel — to take a 6-3 win in game one.
On Saturday, Dumanski opened the scoring one minute into the second period with a power-play goal.
Midway through the period, Kylie Perry added a shorthanded goal to put the Rustlers up 2-0.
Late in the period, the Rustlers added a third goal.
With no scoring in the third, the Rustlers took their second straight win, 3-0.
On Sunday afternoon, the Trojans trailed 1-0 after the first period, with the lone Rustlers goal coming with just seven seconds remaining.
Claudia Lammers scored a power-play goal exactly 15 minutes into the second period to make it 2-0.
The Rustlers extended the lead to 4-0 in the third with a pair of goals from Keyra Buziak.
Trojans rookie Brooke Zaseybida scored late in the period, but the Rustlers added two more to complete the sweep.
With the three losses, the Trojans sit last in the ACAC women’s hockey standings with a 3-10 record.
Next for the Trojans is an away game against the Medicine Hat College Rattlers on Friday, Jan. 9, 2026, at 7:30 p.m. in Medicine Hat.
The Trojans then host the Red Deer Polytechnic Queens the following day at 7:15 p.m. at WinSport Arena in Calgary.
Men
The Trojans men’s hockey team took on the league-best Red Deer Polytechnic Kings this weekend.
Game one took place Friday, Nov. 28 in Red Deer.
The home side opened the scoring 51 seconds into the game.
Just past the midway point of the first period, Brody Simpson assisted Trojans veteran Brandon Machado to tie the game.
The Kings added a goal with 11 seconds remaining in the period to go up 2-1.
In the second period, the Trojans scored four straight — two from Owen Underhill and one each from Dylan Clark and Tate Schofer.
After two periods, the Trojans led 5-2.
In the third, the Kings scored twice midway through the period to make it 5-4.
The Trojans added two empty-net goals from Zach Cain and Clark to secure a 7-4 victory.
On Saturday night, the Trojans faced the Kings at WinSport in Calgary.
Red Deer jumped out to a 3-0 first-period lead, with goals from Kasey Hiemstra, Carter Cormier and Shane Tibbles.
In the second, Machado and Cooper Algajer scored early to get the Trojans back into the game.
Nolan Doell put the Kings up 4-2 midway through the period.
The lone goal of the third was an empty netter from Kings forward Dawson Leroux to seal the 5-2 win.
With the weekend split, the Trojans sit second in the ACAC men’s hockey standings with a 10-2 record.
Next for the Trojans are back-to-back home games against the Portage College Voyagers on Friday, Jan. 28, 2026, at 6:45 p.m. at WinSport Arena and the following day at 2:15 p.m., also at WinSport Arena.
Women’s volleyball drop two straight, men continue winless streak
Women
The Trojans women’s volleyball team travelled north this past weekend.
On Friday, Nov. 28, the Trojans faced the NAIT Ooks in Edmonton.
The Trojans took the first two sets 25-18 and 25-17 to go up 2-0.
The Ooks responded by winning the third and fourth sets to force a fifth.
In the final set, the Ooks prevailed 15-6.
Jocelyn Ruark led the Trojans offence with 13 kills.
The following day, the Trojans faced the University of Alberta–Augustana Vikings in Camrose, Alta.
The home side won the first two sets 25-18 and 25-17 to take a 2-0 lead.
The Trojans responded with a 25-19 third set win to force a fourth.
They then won the fourth set 27-25 to send it to a deciding fifth.
In the final set, the Vikings earned a 15-13 win to take the match 3-2.
With the two losses, the Trojans sit tied for second in the ACAC women’s volleyball standings with a 6-4 record.
Next for the Trojans is a match against the Red Deer Polytechnic Queens on Friday, Jan. 9, 2026, in Red Deer at 6 p.m., followed by a rematch the next day at 6 p.m. at Rally Pointe in Calgary.
Men
The Trojans men’s volleyball team faced the Ooks on Friday, Nov. 28 in Edmonton.
After four straight losses, the Trojans dropped their fifth in a row, losing in straight sets 25-14, 25-16 and 25-16.
On Saturday, the Trojans faced the Vikings in Camrose.
The Trojans came out strong, winning the opening set 25-23.
From there, the Vikings won three straight, including a 31-29 third set.
Alex Liao had a game-high 39 assists for the Trojans.
With the back-to-back losses, the Trojans sit last in the ACAC men’s volleyball standings with a 2-7 record.
Next for the Trojans is a match against the Red Deer Polytechnic Kings on Friday, Jan. 9, 2026, in Red Deer at 8 p.m., followed by a rematch the next day at 8 p.m. at Rally Pointe in Calgary.
